Professionals point out three important keys:
1. It is not water vapor. It is an aerosol that usually contains nicotine and other substances that can damage the lungs and heart.
2. Metals such as nickel or lead have been detected, with a potential carcinogenic risk.
3. Flavourings reduce the perception of risk and are especially attractive to young people and adolescents, in addition to being able to irritate the respiratory tract and affect cells.
According to studies, the e-cigarette could only be considered in adult chronic smokers, and only as a last resort to reduce risks, not as a safe option.
